RESTYLING: extending the useful life of ticket machines.

SITECO is a SME located in Vitoria-Gasteiz with more than 25 years of experience in the custom design of ticketing and collection machines, with commercial implementation throughout the country. These are essential machines in very different end-customer service facilities where money control and speed of collection are required (canteens, bars, car parks, transportation, etc.), and which are subject to continuous technological advances in the form of payment, a change much faster than the useful life of a machine with these characteristics.

In these cases, scrapping and recycling the machines already installed is a solution with a high environmental impact considering the possibilities offered by remanufacturing with the recovery of parts and the implementation of new business models.

Objectives and lines of action.

The main objective of RESTYLING is to implement a remanufacturing process for SITECO’s already installed ticket and payment machines.

This project involves the standardization of work protocols, including logistics, stock management and commercial relations so that the process can be implemented correctly, in an economically viable way. There is also a life cycle analysis that will allow a study of the environmental savings potential of remanufacturing this type of machine.

The RESTYLING project, led by SITECO, includes the cooperation of GRUNVER SUSTAINABILITY and ZICLA. RESTYLING has been supported by the Basque government’s Circular Ecoinnovation Grant Program, managed by IHOBE, the Basque government’s public environmental management company, in its 2021 call for proposals, which has finance from the ERDF.
